  2. Activity- Memory: we discussed common problems around memorization and test taking, played a game that reinforced memorization tips, and discussed other study related problems and possible solutions.
  3. Assignment- Writing prompt- see me to get this.

Monday, December 6th

  1. Three Types of Memory Graphic Organizer- completed, discussed, but didn't turn in
  2. Assignment:
  3. Make a poster that is a visual representation of either the memory process or the 3 stages of memory. Your poster must be visual, demonstrate your understanding of the concept, and clarify your topic for someone with no prior knowledge. Due next class. We will be sharing :)

October 4th

  1. Presented Subfields of Psychology Charts.
  2. Answered the questions at the end of the direction worksheet and turned in.
  3. Activity: M&M's and "samples"- nothing to make up here, just your loss for not getting some M&M's.
  4. Handouted out the study guide for Wednesday's test. Study guide may be completed for extra credit but must be turned in on Wednesday. No notes will be allowed during the test.
  5. Assignment: Journal entry #4- pg. 57. Journals are due at the end of next class. You should now have 4 entries (pgs. 6, 31, 34, and 57)

Reminder: Next week is the end of the 1st 6 week grading period. All missing work is due by 3:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 7th.

September 30th

  1. Cooperative Learning Activity 1: Subfields of Psychology- broke into groups of 4-5 to create a chart explaining the different subfields of psychology. Group will be presenting chart next class.
  2. Went to the library for the remainder of the period to use the computers for research.

September 28th

  1. Application Activity 2: Correlations- worked on this in groups, turned in.
  2. Research Methods Advantages/Disadvantages Chart- worked on this in small groups, went over, then turned in.

Activity: Approaches to Psychology

  • Handout #1- Causes of Behavior: A Case Study- we worked on this indivdually then discussed but didn't turn it in
  • Handout #2- Ways to View Behavior- broke into groups and used of the 5 approaches to describe the behavior in Handout #1; shared with class during discussion
  • Answered the following questions individually: (1st period turned them in)

1. Which approach seems to have the best explanation of Billy’s situation?
2. What factors make this approach most plausible?
3. Rank-order the remaining approaches. Give a rationale for your choices.

Each day I will post what we did in class and whenever possible provide you with the links to assignments, notes, etc. Feel free to email me at connolly_caryn@salkeiz.k12.or.us if you have any questions!

  1. Syllabus- the last page needs to be signed and turned in by Tuesday the 14th.
  2. Cruise through Psychologyland- just for fun, to introduce you to the concepts we'll be learning this semester.
  3. Wrote a letter introducing yourself to me. What are your interests? Why are you taking Psychology? What do you hope to get out of the class?
  4. Assignment: Bring items that represent you, pictures, magazines, etc. We will be using them on Friday.
